If you are wanting to cosplay but you wear glasses you may think you can’t wear your glasses, or maybe you have cosplayed before and have struggled to see because you thought you couldn’t wear your glasses.
I know I’ve done the latter, and it sucked because I struggled to see everything!
So can you wear your glasses while cosplaying?

Can you wear glasses with a cosplay if the character doesn’t wear glasses?
Yes, you can wear glasses with cosplay even if that character doesn’t wear glasses. Remember you need to look after yourself, and your eyesight is very important.
If you decide to do this, in some cases, you may have people ask you why you are wearing glasses. This is when you can explain to them that you need to wear them otherwise you can’t see!
If someone is judging you for wearing them, ignore them. At times some con-goers (people who go to conventions) may be upset that you are not accurate to the character. This is a very toxic mindset to have, and unfortunately, you will probably be in this situation at least once.
But that’s ok, ignore them and move on and most importantly remember what and who you are cosplaying for. You should be cosplaying for yourself and to have fun.
And please remember, cosplay isn’t all about being completely accurate, you can change things to suit you. Once again that’s the great thing about cosplay, be and do what you want to do. Especially if you need to wear something to see.
Here’s an example of where I made my cosplay less accurate to ensure I could see properly.
The character I decided to cosplay was supposed to wear an eyepatch on their right eye. I couldn’t do this as I have a terrible vision in my left eye. So instead, I wore the eyepatch on my other eye (my left eye) which meant that I could see properly. And guess what, nobody even cared!
Can you integrate glasses into a cosplay helmet?
If your cosplay involves a helmet, integrating your glasses into the helmet is a great way to secretly wear your glasses while you cosplay.
As a glasses wearer myself I know I have old glasses that I no longer use. These glasses can be taken apart so you just have the lens.
You then want to take the lens and attach them to your helmet, either with glue or even tape. Given that the lenses are fragile, please ensure they have been fitted well so they do not fall out and break.
If you don’t want to take the lenses out then you can also stick the glasses into the helmet. Once again, there are many ways to do this and it all depends on your helmet material.
For example, if you have a foam helmet you could carve out a channel inside the helmet that will fit the arms of your glasses inside. This results in a nice snug fit.
How do I see if I can’t wear my glasses with my cosplay?
If you believe that you cannot wear glasses with your cosplay, or you cannot somehow integrate them into your helmet/cowl/mask, etc then you may not be able to see properly.
To ensure that you can see properly I would recommend you look at investing in some contact lenses. This would mean you do not have to wear glasses but you can still see!
